A day without work is a day without food

A day without work is a day without food.

Samu – working meditation – is an integral part of Zen practice. Offering our labor wholeheartedly, without expectation of reward, we learn to live in harmony with the rhythm of the community and the cycles of nature.

At Lambda Zen Temple the Sangha tends the garden, chops wood, and maintains the monastery buildings. Every task is an opportunity to polish the mind and to express gratitude for the simple gift of being alive.

Learn more about our regular retreats – where samu, zazen, and walking meditation weave together into a complete practice – on the Pilgrim Retreat page.
